Elvis was downtown Las Vegas, and can I just say, I never knew he had blond hair and brown sideburns! Yep. And he not only sings his own songs but some Beach Boys and tells jokes. It was pretty impressive.
We spent Tuesday downtown in the older part of Vegas which was pretty cool. Lots of lights, just on a smaller scale than the strip. We got beads put over our heads by showgirls (or at least girls who looked like that wanted to be in a show), saw the light show (which is HUGE), and ate a great meal at the Paradise buffet for $9.99. We also saw some of the production set pieces for the movie filming at the Golden Nugget.
The movie is The Grand and according to the valet, Nicholas Cage, Woody Harrelson, and Ray Romano were all in the casino that day. We didn't see any of them but we did see lights, equipment and a bunch of animals. There were cages of hamsters, guinea pigs, even a white rabbit - all alive. I have no idea what part they play in a movie about a poker tournament but maybe there's a magician in the scene or something. It's a scripted plot with improv dialgoue according to one internet source, sounds interesting.
What else - oh yes, we got a free spin of the giant slot machine at the Four Queens but sadly didn't win. However, we did buy playing cards used in the casinos we had been in and won actual quarters while playing the slots (downtown you can put a quarter in and get a quarter out - it's cool to hear the sound of the coins crashing out when you win but on the strip you can only use bills and you print out a voucher when you win, not nearly as dramatic!).
Ok - I am off to unpack and sort and organize. More tales later...
